“BORN IN SCHIEFWEG”

Bavaria now boasts another museum attraction: The emigration museum “Born in Schiefweg” opened its doors on May 15, 2010, after a two-year planning stage and three months to realize it. Located in the house in Schiefweg near Waldkirchen (district Freyung-Grafenau) where Bavarian regional poet Emerenz Meier was born, the museum tells the story of the emigration from the Bavarian and Bohemian Forests to America. It portrays Emerenz Meier’s life at the same time, emphasizing her deserved spot in the ranks of Bavarian literature.
